Days are getting warmer and summer knits are on our mind. As Tara knits a lot, we like to ask her about her favourite patterns and this month we are highlighting a wonderful summer tee – the Salty Air Tee by Samanta Guerin. It’s really a closet staple and is so versatile. This happens to be Tara’s most worn make – something she always reaches for as a layering piece in the spring and as a top during those hot summer days.
Tara knit this in Leo & Roxy Basics Fingering (merino – hey that’s wool! - and nylon blend) in Not Quite White colourway. This has created a classic look that can be worn with so many options.
This pattern was a joy for her to knit and she’s thinking of what yarn to make her next one. It’s knit in the round (fan favourite) and is an engaging make with the lacework.
A few points to consider:
- The lace work extends to bust line – so it needs to be worn with a camisole underneath if you don’t want to show undergarments. You can reduce the lace work repeat to make it stop above bust line to avoid this.
- Use stitch markers to mark the beginning / end of the lace repeats – this will make your life easier and the pattern more intuitive as you won’t need to count but continue with the lace work segments. Helps with mitigating the risk of frogging.
- It is a cropped tee and Tara made it to pattern specs. You may wish to extend the body longer for it to go beyond your waist / belly button
