New Pattern, New Yarn Combos: The Sailor Slippers by Annie Germain

New Pattern, New Yarn Combos

Too many choices, not enough feet…

Felted Slippers are so fun to make! But the real question is: which colours will you choose? Thanks to the construction and design of these slippers, you can really go wild—with bright, bold combos—or keep things simple and cozy with a single shade. Add a POP of colour on the cuff (i-cord), the sole, or both! Add stripes, skip stripes, or try Gillian's favourite… half and half!

About the Pattern

These playful felted slippers are knit flat, then seamed, finished with an i-cord edging, and finally—washed and felted into shape!

For best results, choose a non-superwash wool (this part is very important!). Superwash yarn won’t felt, and you’ll end up with giant clown slippers… unless that’s the goal, of course. 😉

The pattern calls for super bulky, but anything that meets gauge will work. Below, we’ve featured a few options in chunky and worsted (held double) to give you plenty of flexibility.

Playing with Yarn Combos

Grab the pattern, sharpen those pencil crayons, and start dreaming up colour magic! The pattern includes lots of variation ideas to get you inspired.

Yarn Option 1: Cascade 220 Heathers (held double)

We’ve put together some colour combos we think you’ll love. In the middle, you’ll find some great neutral options for the soles—perfect for hiding a bit of wear and tear.

Yarn Option 2: Malabrigo Chunky & Etrofil Heirloom Organic Print

In the top left-hand corner, you’ll notice some solid “sole colours”—but they’d make beautiful striped slippers too!

We’ve also paired Malabrigo Chunky with Etrofil Heirloom Organic Print for some playful solid + speckle stripe combinations.

There are so many colour combos you could knit… but don’t forget the charm of a classic, single-colour slipper. Simple, timeless, and just as cozy.

Check out the pattern page for yarn requirements and all the details—and let us know which combo you’re casting on first!
