New Pattern, New Yarn Combos
New Pattern, New Yarn Combos
Too many choices, not enough sweaters…
Finding the perfect pattern is exciting—but let’s be honest, the real challenge is picking the colours! When Tara came across the Beachside Pullover by JSTDesigns, we knew it was going to be a fun one to play with. This relaxed, beachy sweater features a main colour with contrast stripes, and the possibilities are endless.
About the Pattern
This classic striped crewneck was inspired by long walks on the beach and cozy Cape Cod campfires. The Beachside Pullover is a comfortable, versatile, effortlessly chic, top-down sweater or tee with a compound raglan yoke and overlapping split sides for added ease and movement.
The best part? It’s packed with customization options:
- Three different neckband styles
- Long or short sleeves
- Wide or narrow stripes
- Optional waist shaping
Whether you want a breezy striped tee or a cozy layering sweater, this pattern can do it all.
Playing with Yarn Combos
Do you go with a classic neutral main colour and three bright stripes for that summer pop? Or maybe a tonal palette with just one stripe colour for a more subtle look?
We couldn’t decide either… so we tried a bunch of combos.
First, we looked at Holst Garn Supersoft, planning to hold it double for the perfect lightweight fabric. We picked out a soft neutral for the main colour (MC), then paired it with two different stripe palettes—one bright and playful, the other more moody and tonal.
Next, we headed into the Sport/DK room and explored some heavier-weight options like Berroco Vintage and Manos del Uruguay, but the rustic charm of Patagonia won us over.
After trying a few different combos, Tara finally settled on a crisp and bold pairing: Ivory for the MC and Dragon Fruit as the single contrast colour. Now all that’s left is to cast on—as long we don't change our minds!
Check out the yarn requirements and more details on the pattern, and let us know which combo you’d choose!

Hi. I really like this pattern but would like to make it for me and I suspect the pattern does not translate to a man’s fit. Any suggestions? I like the top down design allowing the split sides and the raglan construction? I have downloaded the pattern as is but I’m not confident enough to alter it even if I knew how to for myself. I’m a pretty experienced knitter but have never knit anything but from a man’s pattern
My choice is the Ivory and Dragon Fruit.
