New Pattern Alert!
Once I saw this on one of my “knittingwithfriendsisthebest” group, I knew I had to get one on my needles – like immediately. So naturally I listened to my instinct (as we all should) and did.
Tori Yu has done it again, releasing the Metropolitan Pullover last month. One may have noticed that I have a deep love affair with Lento, always going back to knit this pattern as it is a closet staple for me…and this love now may be shared with the Metropolitan. Let’s suggest the Metropolitan pullover is a cousin to Lento, coming from the dna of a closet staple, but evolving from a traditional raglan to a hip family member.

What I love about this pattern?

Saddle shoulder design: A beautiful detail that sets it apart.
The combo of a saddle shoulder and then using eyelets (yarn overs) to morph into raglan.

Relaxed fit: It’s relaxed overall fit and offers the choice of tapered sleeves or straight (is that the right word for sleeves?) making it something you can tailor to your desire.

No ribbing:
Yep, the icord bindoff detail is wonderful on the body and sleeves. The neckline is rolled stocking stitch, a lovely alternative to ribbing. I do love an icord bind off – there is something rather soothing and meditative to the repetition of creating that “roll.”
- 6mm needles: And my favourite part other than the design? It’s knit with fingering held double on 6 mm YAY needles, so it’s airy and a rather quick knit (the results-driven part of me LOVES this).

Guess what I did? I knit my first (yes, there are more) Metropolitan in yarn from that wall. There are so many beautiful combos that I couldn’t just stop at one.
My first one is in beautiful blue tones using sock yarn from Rosehaven yarn and suri from Fireflyhaven company together. It’s glorious. It’s like wearing a cloud. To those who haven’t yet knit with Suri, please try it – I love it as an alternative to mohair. It’s soft and airy and perfect for this time of year where you don’t know what the weather is like! And…it’s perfect for those who experience hot flashes (author included).
I already have a second one on my needles – another yarn from the wall – a sock yarn from Gingersnapthat (ordered online direct) and purple suri from Firefly Haven Fibre. I can’t wait to complete this one. It has a beautiful jewel vibe to it.
Highly recommend this pattern for all levels of knitters.
Those who are starting out will learn how to increase stitches via yarn over and icord finishing (which looks scarier than it actually is). Those who have knitted for years will find this a delightful palette cleanser after finishing a complicated project.
