Knit Stitch Report: Retro Rings

Knit Stitch Report: Retro Rings

The cooler mornings and evenings make me want to wear my winter knits – I will have self restraint and hold off as it isn’t officially Fall yet and I keep telling myself that there will be plenty of time to wear them soon.  While we are embarking on the season of layering, I found a perfect pattern for the upcoming transitional weather days. And it’s perfect for us knitters who aren’t sock knitters, who aspire to be sock knitters, who buy those beautiful sock mini bundles with the intent to one day knit socks but never do and those glorious mini bundles of 5 beautiful colours sit looking at you in your stash.  I highly recommend this pattern…Retro Rings by Annie Lupin.

It’s a super cute loose tee that can be worn on its own with jeans or layered over a linen dress. I love the retro vibe and it’s just a fun tee to knit. And I love the fit of this tee – you can adjust the length to be cropped or long (it will require more yarn). It’s in fingering weight, so creates a perfect piece for these transitional days.  It enables you to play with colour without extreme colourwork.  AND you can use those glorious sock minis (or leftovers in your stash). The pattern calls for 5 CC for the rings, but you don’t really have to do 5 colours.  Maybe just choose one for all 5 stripes, or have two colours (alternate stripes). Possibilities are endless.

It’s a great knit for watching streamed shows – but word of advice – please read the pattern instructions unlike what I did – Annie’s stitch increases are different than what I normally do and I didn’t realize that until I was well into the yoke (cringe) and had to frog as I had too many stitches.

My first one of these (ahem yes I have at least two more planned) is knit with Leo and Roxy 80/20 Sock in Leo and a Full Moon Fibres Christmas minis bundle I bought at their trunk show at Little Red Mitten.  I started knitting this make with my knitting friends back in July – yes, it’s my Christmas in July sweater.  My next ones are both going to be in Leo and Roxy 80/20 sock as the MC (I just love this base) and a mini skein set I bought from Knit City Toronto and another mini skein set I purchased online right after Knit City Calgary.  Now just to get these on my needles…

Interested in knitting one and just don’t know what colours to choose? Well we are happy to help – come in and chat with us or reach out to us online.  Wouldn’t it be so cool to knit one of these with yarn from our Canadian Indie Dyer wall? Create a true Canadian masterpiece this season.
