The fibre festival season continues with the next big one being Knit City Calgary on August 16 – 18 (Leo & Roxy will be there!). We love how our indie-dyer community comes together in person at these events to showcase their glorious creations. While not all can attend, we’ve met some new dyers this year and want to highlight two local Canadian superstars. Whether you are still thinking about summer knits or heading into fall makes, we have sock yarn from these two new artisans.
First up is Pam, our very own team member. She is behind Firefly Haven Fibre, where every skein tells a story. She specializes in hand-dyed yarns and fibres that are as unique and beautiful as fireflies lighting up a summer night. Pam wants to bring joy and inspiration to your crafting projects with stunning colours and boy, she does not disappoint. We are swooning over her colourways. Check out our Firefly Haven Fibre stock.
Our other newcomer to our shop is Orange Octopus. Paula loves bold colours and enjoys playing with a variety of techniques to create hand-dyed, one-of-a-kind skeins. Each skein is joyous, whimsical and fun. All items are lovingly made in Underwood, Ontario.
Any of their skeins would make wonderful socks, as it is sock yarn after all. But let’s stretch our creativity beyond socks. We suggest, if you are preparing for cooler days and looking for layering pieces, that these skeins would make a great Sockhead Slouch Hat, Sutton Shawlette or even a fabulous transitional top like the Rock It Tee. Those colourways are just screaming to be made into something beautiful.
