We all deserve a flock of our own!  Learn to knit a covey of feathered friends in this introductory class exploring the basic tenets of the knitted bird, a charming, quiet, and extraordinarily clean species comfortable in all manner of domesticated scenarios.  Scandinavian design superstars ARNE & CARLOS provide expert guidance for intermediate and advanced knitters with an interest in hatching their own handmade avian companions.  You’ll learn the fundamental steps from beak to feet to tail, leaving you well prepared to spread your wings and explore the possibilities all on your own.  In addition, ARNE & CARLOS will teach you how to knit and purl the Norwegian way.  Plus, they’ll share their tips for the easiest method of tensioning yarn correctly to get even stitches and perfect gauge, whether knitting or purling,  And you’ll learn how to read a chart, so you don;t have to rely on the written pattern!  Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn the art of the knitted bird, as well as essential knitting techniques, from the very best in the business.

Very Important note about needles:
Choosing the right yarn and tools for any project is an essential!  For those participants with little or no experience knitting with double-pointed needles, we strongly recommend bringing wooden or bamboo needles.  Please do not bring metal or carbon needles if you have never used dpns before.

All classes include coffee/tea/water and written class materials.  Class prices do not include yarn or needles.  Class descriptions detail yarn and needle requirements for each class. We are offering yarn kits for each class that can be pre-purchased to ensure you have the specified yarn for your chosen class.  These will be waiting for you at your class.

Friday and Saturday’s classes will be held at The Little Red Mitten in our 2nd floor classroom.  Should you require any special mobility accommodations please let us know in advance and we can work together to find a solution.  Sunday’s lecture and afternoon class will be held at the beautifully-renovated CASO Station in St. Thomas.REGISTRATION:  To avoid any discrepancy between online, phone and in-person registrations, registration for the ARNE & CARLOS classes and lecture will be online only.

Tickets: After your online purchase, you will receive an order confirmation by email – this email serves as your ticket. Please bring a printout of this email to your class or lecture. If you do not receive an email confirmation within 24 hours of your purchase, please contact us at and we will resend.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation requests must be made by email to, listing the first and last name the purchase was made under, and the order number. Cancellations will be accepted for full refund until Tuesday October 1st, 2019 at midnight EDT. No cancellations or refunds will be accepted after this date, however you may send a friend in your place by emailing with the first and last name the purchase was made under, the order number, and the first and last name of the person who will be attending in your stead.

Waitlist: Once sold out, there will be no waitlist option for the classes and lecture, however after the cancellation deadline has passed we will re-open online registration on Wednesday October 2nd, 2019 at 7pm EDT for any vacated spots.

Participants should be able to knit and purl. This project is suitable for intermediate and advanced knitters.

More About ARNE & CARLOS

Scandinavians Arne Nerjordet and Carlos Zachrison are highly regarded designers, textile artists and authors. They are best known for their original, colourful and visually striking designs as well as their craft books. Their work is highly influenced by their Scandinavian background and their everyday life in rural Norway. They work under their artist name ARNE & CARLOS, which they established in 2002.
