Located as we are just across from a giant elephant named Jumbo, it seems we ought to have some “jumbo” yarn… and we do. While it is possible to arm knit or to knit on really big needles with multiple strands of any weight of yarn, it is crazy fun to find a three-ply 50% wool /50% alpaca yarn that knits up in a jiffy either on your arms or on 25 mm needles.
I thought it would be interesting to try this new yarn with Joan’s Railway City Cowl. I used a Knitter’s Pride Basix 25 mm /24″ needle and cast on 26 stitches to achieve the mantle-style garment pictured above. I simply stopped after completing the pattern once. To make a narrower cowl, try casting on 18 stitches and working through twice. The pattern is available free with yarn purchase in the shop or ask for it in the notes on your online order.
