  Introduction to Nålbinding

Nålbinding is an endangered ancient textile craft that predates both knitting and crocheting by centuries. The word literally means “binding with a needle,” and that describes this technique rather effectively. In essence, it’s binding stitches together with a single needle and short lengths of yarn to create textiles. Ancient Norse people created this technique and used it to make everything from mittens and socks to bags, blankets, hats, and more.

In this workshop participants will learn about the craft and its history, make swatches of different stitches and begin a simple bag project that Kim has personally designed just for this class!

Spin Off magazine has a nice write up about the origins of this craft - Nålbinding: A Short History of an Ancient Craft

Note: Hand-carved wooden needles can also be purchased from Kim at the class for $15 each, cash only please.
