We hope you enjoy knitting this quick-and-easy faggoted lace scarf.
This simple scarf, with diagonal tips at each end, is great for striping yarns because you’ll get diagonal stripes instead of horizontal ones! Our samples have been worked in two quite different yarns: we’ve used Koigu KPPPM (a heavy fingering weight with a bouncy twist) and Polaris (a more loosely spun DK weight yarn with paillettes and a soft halo). With the proper needle size, this design could look lovely in most yarns. Experiment with yarn and needles before beginning to get the best possible combination with your chosen yarn and needles!
(Did you notice that I didn’t call this swatching?!?!)
- 1 – 50 g ball Polaris by Rozetti and 4.0 mm needles, OR
- 1 – 50 g skein Koigu (KPPPM) and 3.25 mm needles, OR
- 50 – 100 g fingering, sport or DK scarf yarn of your choice
Polaris: 24 sts over 4” in pattern
Koigu: 26 sts over 4” in pattern
Polaris Scarf: 5″ by 64”
Koigu Scarf: 4″ by 40”
Cast on 24 sts for Polaris or 32 sts for Koigu …or any even number of your choice!
Tip: Place marker after first stitch on RS row to help you recognize RS rows. If you accidentally work the wrong row, your straight lines of faggoting will change direction. Oops!
Row 1 (RS): K1, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last st, end k1.
Row 2 (WS): P1, *yo, p2tog; repeat from * to last st, end p1.
Repeat these two rows until scarf is desired length.
Cast off. Weave in ends.
