Latvian national costume expert and the founder of SENA KLETS ('Old Granary'), Maruta Grasmane has devoted her most recent book to Latvian ethnographic mittens. Having completed many years of research on the subject at the National History Museum of Latvia, author M. Grasmane has chosen 178. pairs of mittens created from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century which best characterize the mitten-knitting traditions of the various regions of Latvia. The illustrations and the technical graphs drawn of the published mittens allow readers to learn about Latvian mitten-making traditions as well as about the ornamental patterns used and also provide inspiration for the readers' own handiwork.
